A man in an isolated village in mountains depends his livelihood on mining precious gems.

A short summary of our project

We are raising £3,500 to create a documentary film which will successfully depict the journey of a man living in a remote village in the mountains of Central Asia, and earns his living by illegally mining for precious gems.

Who we are

We are the group of students from Kingston University who are currently on the 3rd year of the filmmaking course. Roman Ibragimov (Director), Micheal Muwonge (Director of Photography) and Lucas Rielly (Sound recorder) Dovydas Arlauskas (UK producer) Azamat Bekturov (producer, Central Asia).

our story

We want to create this documentary film to draw attention to the daily struggles of an ordinary man in his unorthodox profession, and the different hardships he has to face. This is important to us because we want to show a large part of Central-Asian mining culture, and show the difficulties of living in the mountains through the story of one particular person who's livelihood depends on obtaining precious resources/gems. We also want to display the country's immensely vast beautiful landscapes.

Where will the money go?

  • if we hit our minimum, we will spend it mostly on travel and transportation.
  • if we hit our full target, we will be able to stay longer and have more time to perfect the film and receive help from real industry professionals.
  • we will donate extra funds to another project called 'Geocinema' which will be filmed in China.
  • we will give updates on progress every 2 weeks
  • flight tickets (4): £1,540
  • Production costs: £2000 (vehicle hire with driver/guide, accommodation, food and additional expenses).

Rewards

All donors (who would like to be) will be credited in the film as a "special thanks" for helping achieve our highly-anticipated goals of our final graduation film. Also, everyone who donate £55 or more will receive a limited edition film poster in addition to being credited in the film.

Above are a few reference images which speaks to our film's aesthetic direction.
