Ramadan 2024

Help support our Ramadan Events & Activities!

OUR project

The Islamic Society is working closely with the Faith Spirituality Team and other local community groups to help deliver our Ramadan Events Activities 2024! Last year you supported us and helped us raise over £10,000 to support our Ramadan activities. We need YOUR support again!

This year, with the last teaching weeks and revision period for the exams in university coinciding with fasting during the holy month of Ramadan for the Muslim community, we are going BIGGER and BETTER. To run a successful Ramadan Programme, we need a total of £30,000 and through this page we are hoping to raise at least £10,000 to have an amazing Ramadan Programme which, like last year, will have positive results and help our students on campus during this critical period of revision and exams.

Last year, some of the feedback from students was that having a Ramadan Programme really helped them spiritually and mentally and supported their overall wellbeing. They were able stay focused throughout this month and they were able to better prepare for their exams.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and the month when the Holy Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). Ramadan is a holy month of religious reflection and fasting. Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. During this month Muslims are encouraged to increase their good deeds, from acts of charity and community engagement to increasing good values such as generosity, solidarity, kindness, patience, and forgiveness. Fasting means not eating or drinking between the hours of dawn till sunset, which can be long hours! The dates of Ramadan vary from year to year as it is based on the Islamic calendar (lunar), which is about 10 days earlier every year from the Gregorian calendar. Currently it falls on week beginning 11th March which is also the last few teaching weeks/revision period. Students may find that managing their academic commitments while observing Ramadan can be a challenge.

Our story and Where will the money go?

Ramadan 2024

We would like to ask for your support again in helping us to run a successful Ramadan Programme. Of the total cost of £30,000, we are aiming to raise £10,000 as part of this fundraiser to help fund our events and activities. We want to help our students stay connected with others, ensure our students well-being and support those that are fasting during exam time!

We want your help to support a range of events and activities that will promote this. We are confident that with this additional support we will be able to have life-changing results to our students' well-being and development. Better events = more people = bigger impact = better experience. Everybody wins! The money will be spent in order to fund the many events and activities that run as part of the month of Ramadan.

In summary, these will consist of a daily Iftar meal for students and staff to break their fast, Taraweeh (Night Prayers) and many other events and activities throughout the day and night during the holy month. Any excess money will be used to support more events and activities to help make them even better than previous years! Rewards

We have an amazing reward to thank everyone who donates, everyone who takes part with a donation of £500 gets a free ticket to our flagship event of the year (Annual Dinner) and £1000 or more will receive priority to our events and activities throughout the year, which are usually sold out quickly!
