Share. Vision. Heal.

This year, Heritage2Health is raising money to help support us run the largest, fully accessible event day for those in the local community at risk of isolation.

What is Heritage2Health?

Heritage2Health buddies are student nurses who work with young people with learning disabilities to host accessible arts events in nature and heritage sites for people who are at risk of social isolation.

It is a coordinated approach to shared learning and understanding between health and social care, creative industries, heritage and the countryside sector. We seek to bring these rich and diverse sectors together to develop shared solutions to empower and improve wellbeing and participation of vulnerable groups at risk of isolation in the local community.

We host an annual event with the National Trust with the aim to bring together vulnerable groups at risk of isolation in the local community and healthcare students for a fun day of activities.

Our events also enable nursing students to develop the relational, learning and entrepreneurial skills to ensure health services are accessible to all. These events give nursing students the opportunity to work with people with long term conditions and disabilities outside of the clinical setting.

This Years Event

This year, Heritage2Health nursing student buddies will be working with the young people from St Philips SEN School in Chessington to share the challenge of creating an accessible event at Ham House in Richmond on the 28th of June 2018 . This year is Heritage2Healths 12th birthday and we want to celebrate the 39 pioneers who took the risk to test this idea and the 1200 guests and 500 nursing students who have been involved since then.

We have decided this years theme is Vision to celebrate 70 years of the NHS and to highlight that all nurses need to learn how to support people with multiple complex issues, firstly in a non-clinical setting through the Heritage2Health buddy scheme.

We already have some exciting activity offers from the university and external community partners. We are giving our guests the opportunity to explore the treasures of Ham House and its beautiful gardens, enjoy storytelling and drumming with our Master Storyteller, experience a personalised music therapy session with Singing4health, design jewellery and usable objects out of bike parts and to watch the magic of Shadow Theatre with our Greek Puppeteer. Our guests will also be able to help make a world quilt, try their hand at 17th century baking, try yoga, design a stained glass window and float paper boats along the Thames. Or they can just spend the day relaxing, chatting and watching the flowers grow!

Where will the money go?

Our dream would be to raise enough money to be able to expand Heritage2Health to support even more people in the community and to add much needed equipment and materials to our supplies. Any money we do raise will go towards covering the costs of food and refreshments and the activities for our 120 guests and to support the artists who, without their commitment, this event would never happen.

Our costs include, £1500 for activities, £500 for food and refreshments and £2000 for equipment.
