Graduate collection FINNERTY MACKAY

I am studying BA Fashion at Kingston University. During my studies, I have explored using precision and craft as a vessel to tackle personal and conflicting concepts, creating pieces which are sometimes autobiographical or are used to question taboo social paradigms.

The choices of where and how we wear clothes upon our bodies is a personal love letter to the objects we choose to be most intimate with. This idea ignites a personal fascination with the haptic notion of clothing. My creative working process involves deconstructing queer kink practices and semiotics from their primary interaction with the body. By applying esoteric references to historical tailoring techniques, I am able to subvert the culture of the garments deepening the relationship between garment and body.

I have had experience working closely with a multitude of designers, from initial design to fully realised garments. Most notably, I assisted Harris Reed with their SS21 collection “Found’ and the look worn by Iman at the Met Galla 2021. I then spent my placement year in Paris working for Ludovic de Saint Sernin (LDSS), developing the collections through their atelier practice. The highlight of my time at LDSS (FW22-SS23) was developing and constructing the final piece worn by Bella Hadid FW22. Through my experiences, I have learned the importance of fabrication sensitivity and honed my skills in construction techniques to further emphasise the creative narrative of a collection.

As my final collection comes to fruition, I am looking for a financial sport to aid in buying materials and covering the cost of models. My budget is as follows;

  • Fabric - £700,
  • Photography - £150,
  • Models - £150

Any donation would be greatly appreciated!
