wHO WE ARE

Stanley Picker Gallery and Dorich House Museum are Kingston University’s unique cultural venues. We stage public events and exhibitions, working closely with contemporary artists, designers, students and academics to commission and present innovative ideas and ambitious new practice celebrating our diverse community heritage.

WhAT WE OFFER STUDENTS

We work inclusively to foster personal growth and support the career aspirations and professional development of our students, enhancing their success, well-being and employability through an extensive range of opportunities including

  • Paid employment for students and recent graduates within our Museum & Gallery Assistant Scheme
  • Formal and informal teaching and learning opportunities
  • Opportunities to exhibit, perform and participate in the Gallery and Museum programme and to work on live projects with our extensive network of community partners and creative practitioners and curators, including our Stanley Picker Fellows
  • Professional placements and the opportunity to work with our art collections and archives
  • Financial support for student-led projects
  • Targeted opportunities to support students facing specific barriers to access to career entry level cultural sector roles, including student-led programmes such as Splinter Collective, a P.O.C Design Collective supporting the professional and creative development of Black, Asian and minority ethnic students and alumni.

How students enhance our venues

Visitors to our venues love to meet our students who bring fresh new ideas and their knowledge and expertise to the visitor experience. Having students’ welcome visitors, conduct guided tours or showcase their work in our spaces helps make our venues accessible to a wider and more diverse audience.

WhAT our students say about working with us

“Working with Kingston University’s Gallery and Museum whilst I was a student offered me opportunities to learn new skills and increase my confidence and belief that I would find work in the very competitive cultural sector!” Mengfei Liu (MA Museums & Galleries 1 yr work placement)

"I am deeply grateful to Dorich House Museum and Stanley Picker Gallery for their incredible support in shaping my graphic design journey, from my student days into my professional career they provided tailored guidance that honed my skills and helped build my portfolio." Alex Stillwell (BA Graphic Design)

“Working at Stanley Picker Gallery and Dorich House Museum is so inspiring. I was able to gain wide-ranging experiences, helping me to progress professionally and work with a multitude of artists.” Sebastian Nissl (MA Fashion)

“Working with Museum and Gallery has exposed me to a diverse range of roles. I feel honoured to `be part of this supportive team and be given the opportunity to explore my creative potential and encourage me in my professional goals.” Ahlam Ahmadi (BA Fine Art)

wHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT AND WHAT YOUR DONATION WILL FUND

Your generous gift will help us achieve our target of £20,000 to support student projects and employment at the Gallery and Museum.

Meeting our target will allow us to fund a minimum of 1,000 hours of paid student employment in 2024-25 and allocate funds to support the direct costs of student-led projects and initiatives.
