A short summary of OUR project
“Smiling depression” is a term for someone living with depression on the inside while appearing perfectly happy or content on the outside. Their public life is usually one that is “put together,” maybe even what some would call normal or perfect. This statement sums up Luna, our main character's life. From an outside perspective she seems to be living a perfect life as she comes from a wealthy family who give her everything she's ever wanted. Her close friends tend to see her as a joyful and outgoing person who goes above and beyond to ensure the people around her are happy. However, what people don’t know about Luna is that she is always putting up a front when’s she’s around other people, not allowing her true self to come out, in fear of people not being able to understand her completely. This has then become a burden to her, and due to fear of being abandoned or shunned she has developed an escape mechanism to cope with the stress, a place where she can be alone with her thoughts no matter how negative they are and this takes form as her mindscape.
