A 2018 Graduate Film from the BA Filmmaking course

A short summary of our project

' Self Entertainment ' is an upcoming short film that follows Cedrick, a Kleptomaniac with Narcolepsy caught up in the midst of his own grand plan - unable to understand where he has woken up, or why. With him is a man he doesn't recognize, Archie, who repeats everything he was told, follows Cedrick's now forgotten instruction - as things slowly start to fall into place...

The film will be heavily stylized, and shot with a crew of 8-10 like minded individuals over a period of four days (three of which will include the role advertised) in a variety of environments, using the latest equipment, including high end cameras, sound equipment, and three axis stabilizers to ensure visual prominence and fluency. We also expect to be entering into the festival circuit once the final edit has been completed.

We hope to raise enough money to fully fund and cost our film, covering all financial matters to bring our collective creative vision to life!

Who are we?

We are a group of third year BA Film- making students:

Laurie J. Blayney (co-director & writer)

Caleb McGrath  (co-director & editor)

Charlie Mason (producer)

Carlton Hooper (director of photography)

Matt Boardman (1st assistant camera)

Georgie George (sound recording and design)

Aurelia Chmiel (art department)

the story

We are, no doubt, a group of passionate, hard working and devoted students committed to the creation and expression of our creative visions. Following a long, and sadly final day of pitching for our BA class, 'Self Entertainment' was given the green light to come to life and become something more than simply an idea.

This film is something we, as a group, hold very close to our hearts. From countless months of writing, and planning - to the pitch itself and resulting meetings, we have decided to commit ourselves and our capabilities towards making the best possible film that we can to demonstrate not only what we can do, when given the opportunity to express our storytelling abilities, but also to utilize what we have learned throughout our years at Kingston University and make a creative statement bigger and more ambitious than ever before.

We aim to resonate with a number of influences, styles, and approaches - demonstrating multi-dimensional, relatable and entertaining characters, and capitalizing on what we have learned as independent filmmakers ready to test and explore our cinematic potential and maintain our academic momentum .

Please help us establish this fund to provide the financial security we need to ensure all necessary costs can be accounted for and covered.

Where will the money go

A rough run-through of production costs are as follows:

  • Actor costs - £250
  • Costumes and props - £100
  • General production costs - £250
  • Printing costs (film photos) - £50
  • Travel - £150 (all cast and crew, 4 days of shooting)
  • Festival submissions - £200

By helping to fund the film, your contribution will be inexplicably valuable and help the final product by enabling us to correctly pay for and cover various different costs and finances. If we only achieve the minimum, the funding will be correctly distributed to the relevant departments and areas needing money to develop and progress the film (as listed below). If our full target is hit - we can enjoy a full budget and accordingly provide the necessary requirements (as desired) without having to limit ourselves or feel the restriction of financial strain. Any extra funds will, again, be distributed correctly across all departments and aid the film in fantastic and unprecedented ways. Progress will be updated at any and every given opportunity.

Rewards

  • We will be offering credited roles for all contributors, listed as either executive producers or in the 'with thanks' segment at the end of the credit roll.
  • Copies of the photos taken throughout the shooting process will also be rewarded to those who contribute.
