A summary of my project
My graduate collection 'Fragile Geometry' is inspired by brutalist architecture, exploring industrial references and subtle asymmetric details. Using the exploration of digital design through CLO3D software, I have developed 3 female and 3 male looks which can also be worn unisex. As a young designer with an awareness of the impacts of high-speed, low-cost fashion, I am using all dead-stock woven fabrics and as many end of line or locally sourced yarns as possible. I firmly believe in the utilisation of materials that are already at our disposal and extending the life of fabrics that were not made through brand new polluting processes.
about me
I am 23 years old and studying Fashion Design at Kingston School of Art. I began my studies in textiles at A-Levels and progressed onto the Foundation Art and Design course at Kingston prior to my degree. After the second year of my BA, I undertook a placement year in industry and gained first hand experience and am continually incorporating the skills I learnt into my own practice.
Your story
I believe that digital design and sustainability go hand in hand when considering how to minimise the wasteful impacts of design. By creating patterns on the software I am able to visualise to scale how the garments will fit and be constructed and then use this pattern in the physical toiling process. The impacts of consumption and production, which I investigated in my dissertation, are slowly forcing consumers everywhere to question the way they purchase, use and value garments.
Where will the money go?
After completing a series of unpaid internships, financing my graduate collection continues to present challenges. Whilst a portion of the dead-stock fabrics were donated to the university, buying end of line fabrics and yarns are more expensive than cheaper, low quality fabrics that will not stand the test of time.
In addition, I am looking for support to fund the final stages of completion that include my photoshoot. I will also give progress updates after each stage of the project once I complete my hand in.
My budget is as follows:
Models - £200
Photographer - £200
Styling - £100
Travel - £50
Rewards
- I would love to get in contact with anyone who donates and credit them throughout my work
- I will also send prints of my final outcome to anyone who donates!
