Toilet cubicles hold confessions and secrets. They are intimate spaces that we voluntarily share with hundreds of people, creating moments of liberation, as well as discomfort. Each has a library of different stories at their disposal, written on walls, passed between cubicles, where personal and political opinions meet, when strangers and friends do too. We are not afraid to project, love and dream in the safety of discrepancy. But the guilt these desires leave us can remain.
About
‘Forgive me Father’ tells the stories of two places at different points in time with the protagonist being the factor which holds them together, through the lens of sapphic desire/love. Neither one is the future nor the past but both must happen for the other to exist.
Between two toilet cubicles; a school bathroom, and a club toilet, our protagonist recalls interactions with their best friend from high school, and a seeming strange love interest they meet in a club toilet, experiencing the highs of love, loss and guilt at both points in time. Carrying the guilt of queerness with them in both spaces, one exists as a nightmare and the other a hopeful dream however we are left questioning which is which.
This 5 minute film explores ideas of queerness and religion, and the guilt that festers with the existence of both in someone’s life, through the use of multiple mediums and abstract non linear story telling.
