My project
This project explores the translation of expandable structures into clothing design. The main idea came from an interesting origami technique. I experimented with a lot of folding to transform it into a special garment structure. The aim of the project is to create a garment that can be transformed to create a new concept of clothing. It will lead to new visual effects of the garment and create new adjustable shapes. I am in the process of raising funds to further develop this project.
Who am I?
I am an MA Fashion Designer from Kingston University. I love everything about structural design and enjoy the process of translating structural design into garments.
My story
I'm a more neutral designer and I think some mechanical or heavy industrial designs can translate well into clothing construction. It is not limited to surface design; deep design can also be translated. My starting point is clothing that people wear in extreme conditions, using tools that are mostly extensible. I expanded the subject area to include adaptability at its core, as stretching is about better adaptation, and I could find many different ways of stretching under the general condition of adaptability. In the end, I conditioned my design of interesting garments on mechanical ways of adapting through a lot of experimentation.
