How do you want to spend your life? Lucia is a poetic, surreal short film about death anxiety.

About our project

We are raising £1,000 to complete the post-production and festival submissions for "Lucia," a poetic and surreal short film. This project combines live action, animation, and experimental visuals, and was created as part of our MA Filmmaking graduation course at Kingston University. The film has already been shot, and now we need your support to finish it and share it with the world.

Who are we?

We’re a group of MA Filmmaking students from Kingston University who are passionate about exploring emotional and philosophical themes through bold visual storytelling. Lucia is our final project, created collaboratively by a team of international filmmakers.

Team Introduction

Director: Eleven Wang

Graduate of the Central Academy of Drama, with a background in stage creation and production. Her work often explores themes of humanity and feminism.

Producer: HsinTung Liu

Graduated from the School of Film at National Taiwan University of Arts. She has collaborated on international short films in Singapore and Hong Kong. This is her second short film produced in the UK.

Sound Designer: Ziyue Huang

Ziyue brings four years of audio drama experience into her approach to sound design.

The story

Lucia tells the story of a woman who has feared death since she was a child. One day, a friend invites her to her own mock funeral, a strange and theatrical ritual that unexpectedly becomes a turning point.

Through surreal memories, imagined simulations, and quiet conversations, Lucia is guided toward confronting her deepest fear. The film blends dreamlike visuals, digital landscapes, and emotional honesty to ask one question:

How do you want to spend your life?

This film isn’t just about death. It’s about choosing how to live meaningfully, even in the face of the inevitable. We believe it will speak to anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by life’s big questions, especially in uncertain times.

Your support helps us share this story with audiences through film festivals and screenings, where it can spark conversations and connect people across cultures.

Where will the money go?

Our funding goal is £1,000, which will go toward:

• Animation and visual effects: £400

• Sound design and mixing: £200

• Colour grading: £150

• Film festival submission fees: £150

• Marketing materials (poster, translations, trailer): £100

If we exceed our goal, extra funds will help us:

• Submit to more international festivals

• Translate the film into more languages (Mandarin, Spanish, etc.)

• Host a live or online screening and Q&A session

We’ll share weekly updates throughout post-production and the festival journey, including behind-the-scenes looks, animation work-in-progress, and insights from the team.

Rewards

We want to thank every supporter with something meaningful:

• £10 – Digital thank-you and exclusive production stills

• £25 – Early online access to the film

• £50 – Your name in the end credits of the film

• £100 – A special limited-edition merchandise item inspired by Lucia
