Who am I?
My name is Isabel and i am a third year on the fashion design course at Kingston School Of Art. I'm from Oslo currently living in London.
My project
I’m raising £1500 to fund my final year collection. I wanted to shed light on the issue with water pollution and oil spills in the fashion industry. By buying fast fashion we are contributing to ruin the water with chemicals. If we don’t change our habits or find new more sustainable ways to print or dye clothes it will ruin the earth. We will attend the earth's funeral. I researched Victorian funeral wear to inspire the shape and silhouette, and the toxic waste and oil spills inspired my print. I played with acrylic ink in water to recreate a lake of toxic waste.
I also experimented with layering two or more prints of organza on top of solid printed fabric to create depth and a 3D feeling. I believe this will prevent the shapes and silhouettes from 1800th-1900th feeling like a costume and bring the prints to life.
