The Brian McCann Drawing prize
The Brian McCann Drawing Prize is awarded in celebration of Brian McCann, a much loved and respected tutor on the BA Fine Art Course at Kinston University from 1990 until 2014. Selected by Valerie Merlo McCann, the award of £100 is made every year to a 3rd year BA Fine Art student.
Brain was an artist as well as a teacher and his sculpture, video and drawings can be seen in collections around Britian, notably the British Museum, Dundee University fine art collections, and the Harris Museum in Preston.
Brian was a passionate advocate for the importance of drawing in Fine Art, supporting students to explore a range of approaches and drawing practices. Terry New describes an 'enquiring and visually poetic imagination that endeared him to peers and students alike'.
