Help support our Ramadan Events & Activities!

Ramadan 2026

OUR project

The Islamic Society is working closely with the Faith & Spirituality Team and other local community groups to help deliver our Ramadan Events & Activities 2026!

Last year, your incredible generosity helped us raise over £10,000 for our Ramadan activities. This year, we're asking for your support once more to make an even greater impact!

This year, with the last teaching weeks and the revision period for exams at university coinciding with fasting during the holy month of Ramadan for the Muslim community, we are going BIGGER and BETTER. To run a successful Ramadan Programme, we need a total of £40,000 and through this page we are hoping to raise at least £10,000 to have an amazing Ramadan Programme which, like last year, will have positive results and help our students on campus during this critical period of revision and exams.

Last year, some of the feedback from students was that having a Ramadan Programme really helped them spiritually and mentally and supported their overall wellbeing. They were able to stay focused throughout this month and they were able to prepare for their exams.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and the month when the Holy Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

Ramadan is a holy month of religious reflection and fasting. Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. During this month, Muslims are encouraged to increase their good deeds, from acts of charity and community engagement to increasing good values such as generosity, solidarity, kindness, patience, and forgiveness. Fasting means not eating or drinking between the hours of dawn till sunset, which can be long hours!

The dates of Ramadan vary from year to year as it is based on the Islamic calendar (lunar), which is about 10 days earlier every year than the Gregorian calendar. Currently, it falls on the week beginning 16th of February and ends the week beginning 16th of March, which is very close to study leave. Students may find that managing their academic commitments while observing Ramadan can be a challenge.

Our story and Where will the money go?

Of the total cost of £40,000 we aim to raise £10,000 through this fundraiser to support our events and activities. we are aiming to  Of the total cost of £40,000, we are aiming to raise £10,000 as part of this fundraiser to help fund our events and activities. We want to help our students stay connected with others, ensure our students well-being and support those who are fasting during exam time! We want your help to support a range of events and activities that will promote this.

We are confident that with this additional support, we will be able to have life-changing results for our students' well-being and development.

Better events = more people = bigger impact = better experience. Everybody wins!

The money will be spent to fund the many events and activities that run throughout the month of Ramadan. In summary, these will consist of a daily Iftar meal for students and staff to break their fast, Taraweeh (Night Prayers) and many other events and activities throughout the day and night during the holy month. Any excess money will be used to support more events and activities to help make them even better than previous years!
