A short summary of your project

Every year, a team of students (us) designs, manufactures, builds and races a small race car based on a set of rules given to us by the IMechE. More details about the project can be found here: Formula Student - Institution of Mechanical Engineers 

Who are you?

My name is Nancy Shehata, and I am a 3rd year student studying BEng Mechanical Engineering! I am the team lead of our 120-member team. We have 9 different departments, allowing students from all courses to join. These include: Business, Marketing and social media, Cost and Manufacturing and many technical departments. We’re all about building each other up for the future and for the industry.  

Your story

We compete in Formula Student (like F1 for students). It’s essentially an engineering competition designed to test our knowledge and build our skills for the world of motorsports, and allow people from other disciplines (like business and marketing) to gain experience in their fields and be tested by professionals. Some teams have over £250,000 to spend on their car, while we receive £35,000 for everything, INCLUDING competition and travel fees, which can exceed £10,000. Last year, we competed in the UK, Greece and Croatia: making it on track for the first time in 4 years in Croatia and placing 3rd in all static events in Greece! Our highest places ever! 

Last year's costs: 

- ~£4000 for FSUK competition entry, camping and travel

-£4250 for FSAA competition entry fee and camping (flights were self-funded)

-£2000 for FSIHU (Greece) entry fee and camping 

-£4000 for FSIHU flights for members

Where will the money go?

We are not asking for everything to be funded, we just need some help funding the things below.

The funding divide:

-£2514 on FSUK Silverstone competition entry Fee

-£4250 on FSAA Croatia competition entry Fee and Camping 

-£1000 on 2 testing days at tracks, as we have to book the entire track in advance for 6 hours 

-£2000 for car build and launch event - This would go towards material cost for fabrication, CNC machining of important aluminium parts, body panels and car sensors.

-£236 Contingency Fund

Anything more will allow us to cover the cost of parts we would like to have, as they aid our performance at competitions; however, we don't need to. This includes items like a hydramat to avoid fuelling problems, carbon fibre for the aero package, and more complex sensors that allow us to track the car's performance from a distance and provide feedback to the driver in real-time.

£250-349- Kingston Racing Race Jacket + Your name or company name on the side of the car 

£350-999 - A selection of Merch (Jacket, Shirt and Beanie) + Your name or company name on the nose of the car + 2 invitations to our launch event.

£1000+ - A selection of Merch as above + Your name or company name on the car sides and front of the team wear + 4 invitations to the car launch event + Sponsorship posts on Instagram*

*subject to the appropriateness of the content that is being promoted for sponsorship posts
